John Bowker hit a three-run home run as part of a nine-run fifth inning as the Giants split-squad beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-6. Kevin Pucetas gave up just one hit in three scoreless innings of work, but the Milwaukee Brewers jumped on the pitchers who followed Pucetas, handing the Giants their first loss of spring training, 12-1.

Pucetas, who is in the running for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation, struck out one and walked none in his first spring outing.

Inside the box scores
Andres Torres, was 2 for 4 with a double and a triple against the Brewers.
Eugenio Velez, whose chances of breaking camp with the big club improved with Emmaunel Burriss’ injury, was 2 for 3 with a stolen base and two runs scored against Arizona. Velez played 2B and OF last season.
Pablo Sandoval was 1 for 3 with a two-run double against the D-back.
Aaron Rowand went 0 for 2 with two strikeouts against Arizona. He also was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Joe Martinez, also in the running for the No. 5 rotation spot, gave up four runs on five hits in one inning of work against Arizona.
